San Isabel National Forest

San Isabel is a more than 1.1 million-acre National Forest in central Colorado.  The forest contains 19 mountain peaks above 14,000 feet, including Mount Elbert, the highest point in Colorado, and seven wilderness areas.  It is managed jointly with Pike National Forest, Cimmaron National Grassland and Comanche National Grassland.  The combined forests and grasslands are headquartered in Pueblo.

Ranger Districts:


Leadville Ranger District:


The Leadville Ranger District includes the Sawatch Range, the highest mountain range in Colorado.


Salida Ranger District:


The Salida Ranger District cover most of Chaffee County and includes the headwaters of the Arkansas River.


San Carlos Ranger District:


The San Carlos Ranger District makes up the southern half of San Isabel National Forest.
