Leadville Ranger District (San Isabel)

The Leadville Ranger District of San Isabel National Forest comprises 286,000 acres in the western portion of the forest.  The district surrounds the town of Leadville, once a booming mining town, that is the highest incorporated city in the United States at 10,152 feet above sea level.  The district contains the Sawatch Range and contains 10 fourteeners, including Mount Elbert, the highest point Colorado.  There are two lakes in the district with large developed campgrounds and day-use areas and four wilderness areas are partially within the district.
