Jefferson National Forest

Jefferson National Forest covers more than 700,000 acres of National Forest in southwestern Virginia with a small area in Kentucky.  It is managed jointly with George Washington National Forest, making the combined forests one of the largest areas of protected land in the eastern United States.  The combined forests are headquartered in Roanoke.

Ranger Districts:


Clinch Ranger District:


The Clinch Ranger District is located in extreme southwestern Virginia.


Eastern Divide Ranger District:


The Eastern Divide Ranger District is located in southwest Virginia near Blackburg.


Glenwood Ranger District:


Combined with the Pedlar Ranger District of George Washington National Forest, the Glenwood-Pedlar Ranger District contains forest land between Roanoke and Charlottesville.


Mount Rogers National Recreation Area:


Mount Rogers Recreation Area contains land in southwest Virginia, including the highest point in Virginia.


Waterfalls:


There are a number of waterfalls in the forest.
