Three Forks (Chattooga)

Three Forks is a an area in extreme northeastern Georgia in Rabun County in the Chattooga River District of Chattahoochee National Forest.  Big Creek, Overflow Creek and Holcomb Creek come together to form the West Fork of Chattooga River.  This is a rugged area with numerous waterfalls on the three forks.  Old roads and overgrown paths provide access to the area and the waterfalls and dispersed camping is permitted.  The area can be accessed from the east on GA-28 and from the west on Overflow Creek Road (FR-86).

Big Creek First Waterfall:


The First Waterfall on Big Creek is right up from the confluence at Three Forks.


Big Creek Second Waterfall:


The Second Waterfall on Big Creek is a 25-foot waterfall.


Big Creek Third Waterfall:


The Third Waterfall on Big Creek is a big waterfall in several sections and the most impressive on the creek.


Big Creek Fourth Waterfall:


The Fourth Waterfall on Big Creek flows through a narrow canyon and is extremely difficult to visit.


Wildlife:


Mountain laurel (Kalmia latifolia) is common in the Three Forks area.
