Saxapahaw Island Park

Saxapahaw Island Park is a 30-acre Alamance County Park surrounding an island in the Haw River near the community of Saxapahaw.  The park provides access to the river for paddling and fishing and there several hiking trails in the park, including a portion of the Haw River Trail and Mountains-to-Sea Trail.  The island is downstream of Saxapahaw Lake and right next to Saxapahaw Rivermill.

Directions:


From Burlington, head south on NC-87 for about 2 miles and turn left on NC-54 east.  Go about 5 miles to Swepsonville and turn right on Main Street.  Immediately turn left on Alfred Road and go 1 mile to a left turn on Swepsonville-Saxapahaw Road.  Drive 5.3 miles and turn right on Church Road.  After crossing the river onto the island, turn left into the park.

Haw River Trail:


The Haw River Trail is currently about 2.5 miles in Saxapahaw and leads right across the island.  There are plans to expand the trail further.  See Haw River Trail for more description of the entire trail.


Saxapahaw Island Loop:


Saxapahaw Island Loop is a 1.5-mile trail around the small island in the river.
