NC MST Segment 11

Segment 11 of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail runs for 65.7 miles from Falls Lake Dam to Howell Woods Environmental Learning Center.  This segment is called the Neuse River Greenways & the Let'Lones as it follows greenway trails along the Neuse River for much of its length.  The eastern end is in a wide area of Neuse River floodplain known as the Let'Lones.  39.3 miles of the trail is along paved multi-use greenway trails and 26.4 miles is along roads.

Route:

The western trailhead is at the Falls Lake Dam in North Raleigh.

The trail follows the Neuse River downstream along the Neuse River Trail, part of Raleigh's Capital Area Greenway.  Neuse River Trail follows the river downstream for more than 27 miles to the Johnston County line.

Crossing the county line, the trail becomes Clayton River Walk in the town of Clayton.

In 4 miles, the MST follows Sams Branch Greenway into Clayton and follows roads through town and roughly follows the Neuse River to Smithfield.  In Smithfield, the trail follows Buffalo Creek Greenway, part of the town's Neuse Riverwalk.

The trail then picks up along roads to terminate at Howell Woods.
