Mount Pisgah (BRP)

Mount Pisgah is a peak at 5,721 feet above sea level in the Blue Ridge Mountains southwest of Asheville. The land surrounding the mountain is a recreation area along the Blue Ridge Parkway at milepost 408.6 with a campground, picnic area, trails and the Pisgah Inn, the only lodge along the parkway in North Carolina.  The summit of the mountain, however, is in Pisgah National Forest.  Numerous hiking trails lead through the area, including to the summit of Mount Pisgah, the statewide Mountains-to-Sea Trail, and the Shut-In Trail, constructed by George Vanderbilt to connect Biltmore House to his Buck Spring Hunting Lodge.

Points of Interest:

Buck Spring Lodge:

Buck Spring Lodge was built in 1896 for George Vanderbilt as a hunting lodge on Mount Pisgah.  Today, the only remaining remnants of the original buildings are foundations and retaining walls.  Benches at the site provide great views of the Big Creek Valley.  The ruins can be found along the Mountains-to-Sea Trail just south of Buck Springs Gap Overlook.

The summit of Mount Pisgah can be accessed from a 1.5-mile trail.  There is a communication tower at the top as well as a wooden overlook with nice views.
