Camp Branch Falls (Nantahala)

Camp Branch Falls is a 200-foot waterfall on its namesake, a tributary of Nantahala River in Macon County, North Carolina.  The waterfall is located in the Nantahala River Gorge in Nantahala National Forest.

Warnings: The rocks around waterfalls are slippery.  There is no good point to view the waterfall.  It is very dangerous to attempt to cross Nantahala River.

Directions:


From Bryson City, head west on US-74 for about 20 miles and turn left on Wayah Road.  Go 2.9 miles and pull over at a pull off on the left.

Hike Description:


The waterfall is visible from the road across Nantahala River.


There's no good viewpoint and nowhere to see the entire thing.  Walking further upstream along the river, more of the upper portion is visible.  Heading downstream, the lower portion is visible but the upper portion is hidden.


Being mostly hidden, this waterfall is really only worth a stop in winter when the leaves are down.
