Army Corps of Engineers

The US Army Corps of Engineers is an engineer formation of the US Army with both military and civil works responsibilities.  The Civil Works division has constructed numerous reservoirs and dam projects with outdoor recreation opportunities.

Fort Worth District:


Bardwell Lake:


Bardwell Lake is a flood control lake in Ellis County, Texas near Waxahachie.


Wilmington District:


The Wilmington District is in the South Atlantic Division and covers most of North Carolina east of the Continental Divide and the Roanoke River basin of Virginia.

B. Everett Jordan:


B. Everett Jordan Dam and Lake is a large flood-control lake, mostly in Chatham County, North Carolina.  Most of the land around the lake is leased to the state as Jordan Game Land.


Falls Lake:


Falls Lake is a flood-control lake and reservoir created by the Falls Lake Dam outside of Raleigh, North Carolina.  Most of the land around the lake is leased to the state as Butner-Falls of Neuse Game Land.


John H. Kerr Dam and Reservoir:


John H. Kerr Dam forms Kerr Lake, a 50,000-acre lake on Roanoke River between North Carolina and Virginia.


Philpott Lake:


Philpott Lake is a 3,000-acre lake in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in southwest Virginia.
