Yellow Mountain State Natural Area

Yellow Mountain State Natural Area is a 3,800-acre North Carolina State Park unit in Mitchell and Avery Counties.  This area protects a grassy bald near Roan Highlands in the Unaka Mountains and is adjacent to Pisgah National Forest.  The natural area was established in 2008 and is managed as a satellite of Grandfather Mountain State Park.  Although open to the public, visiting the area can be difficult as there are no amenities, including trails or parking.
