Tusquitee Ranger District (Nantahala)

The Tusquitee Ranger District in Nantahala National Forest covers almost 160,000 acres in the extreme southwest corner of North Carolina in Cherokee and Clay Counties.  The district contains 3 large mountain lakes (Hiwassee, Chatuge and Appalachia) and 2 major rivers (Hiwassee and Valley Rivers) in addition to hiking, camping and picnicking in the forest.

Fires Creek Recreation Area has a picnic area, campsites and many miles of trails.

Southern Nantahala Wilderenss

Southern Nantahala Wilderness protects the headwaters of Nantahala River and Tallaluah River in Georgia.
