Stumphouse Park (Walhalla)

Stumphouse Mountain Park, nestled in the picturesque town of Walhalla offers visitors a captivating blend of natural beauty and historical significance. The park is a South Carolina Heritage Preserve and managed by the town of Walhalla.  The centerpiece of the park is the fascinating Stumphouse Tunnel, a remarkable engineering feat of the 19th century. Originally intended to connect Charleston to the Midwest, the tunnel remains unfinished but serves as an intriguing reminder of the area's industrial past. Visitors can explore the tunnel's cool, shadowy depths, marveling at its towering rock walls and imagining the ambitious dreams that once echoed within.  The park also features the 100-foot Issaqueena Falls, mountain bike trails and a portion of the Palmetto Trail.  With its blend of history, nature, and adventure, Stumphouse Mountain Park offers a captivating escape into the heart of South Carolina's stunning landscape.

Directions:


From Walhalla, head west on SC-28 for about 5.5 miles and turn right on Stumphouse Tunnel Road to enter the park.  The fee station is on the right about 0.1 miles after entering.  Once paying the fee, continue on the road to a split, where left goes to Issaqueena Falls and right goes to Stumphouse Tunnel.
