Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area

Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area is a 48,438-acre National Conservation Area protected by the Bureau of Land Management as part of the National Landscape Conservation System in Clark County, Nevada.  The area protects the mountains south of Las Vegas and Henderson.  Within the area is the Sloan Canyon Petroglyph Site with more than 300 rock art panels.  Also, the 14,000-acre North McCullough Wilderness is within the conservation area.

Trails:


Cowboy Trail:


Cowboy Trail splits from Petroglyph Trail after about a mile and meets back up at the end to form a loop.


Petroglyph Trail:


Petroglyph Trail starts from the visitor center and leads through the canyon and past many petroglyphs.  At the end, Cowboy Trail can be used to make a loop.  There are two dry waterfalls to climb on the trail.

Petroglyphs:


The Sloan Canyon Petroglyph Site has more than 300 petroglyphs and rock art and can be viewed from Petroglyph Trail.  Please do not touch or climb on the petroglyphs.

Silver cholla (Cylindropuntia echinocarpa)


Cottontop cactus (Echinocactus polycephalus)
