Seng Mountain National Scenic Area

Seng Mountain National Scenic Area is a 6,500-acre protected area in Smyth County within Mount Rogers National Recreation Area in Jefferson National Forest.  The area includes Seng Mountain and several other peaks in the Iron Mountains.  Seng Mountain along with other National Scenic Areas and Wildernesses were established by the Omnibus Public Lands Act of 2009.  There are several trails that are open to hiking and biking and dispersed camping is permitted.

Trails:


Rowlands Creek Trail (#164):


Rowlands Creek Trail starts at Hurricane Gap and descends to the headwaters of its namesake.  It then follows the creek downstream, ending near the northern forest boundary on FR-643.

Rowland Creek Falls is a scenic 50-foot waterfall in the heart of the scenic area.


Wildlife:


Fraser's sedge (Carex fraseriana)


Red trillium (Trillium erectum)


Wild bleeding-hearts (Dicentra eximia)
