Scadin Falls (Cullasaja)

Scadin Falls is a cascading waterfall in multiple sections on Cullasaja River in Macon County, North Carolina.  The waterfall is located in the Cullasaja Gorge in Nantahala National Forest near Highlands.

Warnings: Use caution crossing US-64.  The rocks around waterfalls are very slippery.  A fall from the main viewpoint would be fatal.

Directions:


From Highlands, head west on US-64 for about 6.2 miles to a small pull-off on the right with enough room for one or two vehicles.

Hike Description:


From the pull-off, carefully cross US-64 and get over the guard rail.  An obvious path descends and comes to a split.  Go left to go upstream to the upper portion of the waterfall.


This spot is right above the main drop of the waterfall.


To see the main drop, head back to the split and go left.  A short but steep path descends to a rock in the river with a good view of Scadin Falls.
