Roaring Run Day Use Area (Jefferson)

Roaring Run Day Use Area is a recreation area in the Eastern Divide Ranger District of Jefferson National Forest located in Botetourt County, Virginia.  It is named for Roaring Run, a scenic creek and tributary of James River.  The area contains a picnic area, fishing in a trout stream and a short hiking trail leading to waterfalls and historic sites.  The Roaring Run Furnace was a 19th century iron furnace.

Directions:


From Roanoke, head north on I-81 to exit 150B and merge onto US-220 north.  Drive 21.6 miles and turn left on Craig Creek Road.  Go 5.5 miles and turn right on Roaring Run Road.  In 0.9 miles, turn left onto the entrance road for the day use area and go 0.2 miles to the parking at the end.

Roaring Run Falls Trail (#264A)


Roaring Run Falls Trail is a short spur from the loop that leads up to the waterfall. 


Roaring Run Loop Trail (#264)


Roaring Run Loop Trail is a short loop along the creek and past the furnace.  The lower section of the trail is the Streamside Trail and the upper section is the Woodland Trail.
