Potomac Ranger District (Monongahela)

The Potomac Ranger District of Monongahela National Forest is located near Petersburg.  The district contains West Virginia's highest peak, Spruce Knob and iconic Seneca Rocks, part of Spruce Knob-Seneca Rocks National Recreation Area as well as the scenic Smoke Hole Canyon.  There are two wilderness areas, five developed campgrounds, and many miles of trails.

Dolly Sods Wilderness:

Dolly Sods Wilderness protects a high elevation plateau with sweeping views and plants and animals more normally found in Canada.

Spruce Knob-Seneca Rocks National Recreation Area:

Spruce Knob-Seneca Rocks National Recreation Area includes Seneca Rocks, a world-class rock climbing destination and West Virginia's highest point.
