Monongahela National Forest

Monongahela National Forest is a 919,000-acre National Forest in West Virginia.  The forest was authorized by the Weeks Act and officially designated in 1920.  Elevations in the forest range from 1,000 feet above sea level to West Virginia's highest point, Spruce Knob at 4,863 feet.  The variations in elevation lead to a wide range of ecosystems.  There are eight wilderness areas, numerous developed campgrounds and hundreds of miles trails in the forest.
