Dolly Sods Wilderness

Dolly Sods Wilderness is a 17,766-acre Wilderness Area in the Alleghany Mountains in Grant, Randolph, and Tucker Counties, West Virginia.  The wilderness is located in the Potomac Ranger District of Monongahela National Forest and was established by Congress in 1975.  In the mid 19th century, the Dahle family grazed sheep in open grassy fields known as "sods" from which the name is derived.  Elevations in the wilderness range from 2,500 to 4,700 feet above sea level contains diverse ecosystems, including heaths and bogs normally found in Canada.

Red Creek Trail (#514):

Length: 6.4 miles

Red Creek Trail starts at a parking are at the end of Laneville Road and follows Red Creek upstream, ending at Blackbird Knob Trail.

Curtain Falls:

Curtain Falls has a "curtain" of moss hanging next to the falls.

Stairstep Falls:

Stairstep Falls is a 10-foot waterfall on a tributary of Red Creek.
