Also called Land of History, this segment explores an area rich in history, from a pre-Revolutionary War battle to the rise of railroads. This segment includes about 58.2 miles on paved roads, 3.2 miles on trails and 4.6 miles along the Northeast Cape Fear River.
Route:
The western trailhead is at Singletary Lake State Park and heads southwest through the town of Kelly. In Pender County, the trail crosses Black River and makes a short loop through Moores Creek National Battlefield.
The trail then heads through the town of Burgaw, following the Osgood Canal Greenway Trail through town.
