Greenhorn Mountain Wilderness

Greenhorn Mountain Wilderness is a 23,000-acre Wilderness Area surrounding Greenhorn Mountain, the highest point in the Wet Mountains at 12,347 above sea level.  The mountain rises dramatically from the plains, going from 7,600 to over 12,300 feet.  The wilderness is located in the San Carlos Ranger District of San Isabel National Forest near the town of Rye, Colorado.  There are about 11 miles of trails in the wilderness, all in the northern half of the wilderness near the mountain.  The southern half is very rugged and gets few human visitors.
