Green Mountain National Forest

Green Mountain National Forest is a more than 400,000-acre National Forest in southwestern and central Vermont.  The forest protects a large region of the Green Mountains, a subrange of the Appalachian Mountains, the largest public land area in the state.  The forest is home to numerous campgrounds, scenic driving, and many miles of backcountry trails, including sections of the Appalachian Trail and Long Trail.  Both Green Mountain and Finger Lakes National Forest are administratively combined with the supervisor's office in Rutland.  Local Ranger District offices are located in Rochester and Manchester Center.
