Great Bend Park (Alamance)

Great Bend Park is a 30-acre Alamance County Park along a bend in the Haw River near the community of Glencoe.  The park provides access to the river for paddling and fishing and there several hiking trails in the park, including a portion of the Haw River Trail and Mountains-to-Sea Trail.  The scenic Glencoe Dam is along the river in the park and the Historic Glencoe Mill Village is just outside the park.

Directions:


From I-85/I-40 in Burlington, take exit 143 and go north on NC-62 for about 1.3 miles and bear right onto Church Street/US-70 east.  Go 2 miles and turn left on W Holt Street go straight to continue on NC-62 north.  Drive 3.2 miles and turn left on Union Ridge Road then left again on Greenwood Drive.  The parking area will be on the left in 0.6 miles.

Trails:


Haw River Trail:


A portion of the Glencoe Section of Haw River Trail runs through the park, connecting with the other park trails.  Westbound the trail leads through Indian Valley Golf Course and eastbound, the trail heads through Historic Glencoe Mill Village.

Highland Trail:


Highland Trail is a short loop through the wooded area that is also an interpretive trail for tree identification.

Island Trail:


Island Trail is a half-mile trail leading along the island formed between the Haw River and the millrace.
