Daniel Boone National Forest

Daniel Boone National Forest covers more than 700,000 acres of rugged terrain across 21 counties in eastern Kentucky.  In February 1937, a national forest was proclaimed for Kentucky by President Roosevelt.  Originally named Cumberland National Forest, the forest was renamed Daniel Boone National Forest in 1966.  The park contains three large lakes, countless miles of creeks, two wilderness areas and over 700 miles of trails, including the Sheltowee Trace National Recreation Trail.
