Cliffside Lake Recreation Area (Nantahala)

Cliffside Lake Recreation Area is a forest recreation area near Highlands in Macon County.  It is part of the Nantahala Ranger District of Nantahala National Forest.  The area features a campground, a manmade mountain lake for swimming and fishing, and several short hiking trails.  A day-use fee, payable at self-serve kiosks, is required to enter.  During the winter when amenities are closed, there is no fee to access.

Cliffside Lake Recreation Area is located along US-64 between Franklin and Highlands in the Cullasaja Gorge.  From Highlands, go west on US-64 for 4.6 miles and turn right into the recreation area.

Ranger Falls:


Ranger Falls is a 30-foot waterfall on Skitty Creek.  It is just over a mile hike to the waterfall.
