Cascades Preserve (Guilford)

Cascades Preserve is a 130-acre Guilford County Park near Kernersville.  The preserve protects natural landscapes and wildlife habitat with opportunities for passive recreation.  A trail system with about 2 miles of trail leads through the preserve, past cascading creeks and scenic viewpoints.  The trail is part of Segment 8 of the statewide Mountains-to-Sea Trail.

Directions:


From Greensboro, head west on I-40 for about 8 miles and take exit 210.  Go right on NC-68 north for 2.7 miles and bear left to stay on NC-68.  In 3.8 miles, turn left on Linville Road and drive 2.6 miles.  Turn left on Haw River Road then right on Goodwill Church Road.  The parking will be on the right in 0.6 miles.

Trails:


There are just over 2 miles of trails throughout the preserve.

Falling Waters Trail:


Falling Waters Trail makes a 2-mile loop hike starting from the parking on Goodwill Church Road.  The trail passes the cascades on the tributary for which the preserve is named.


Keyauwee Loop Trail:


Keyauwee Loop Trail makes a half-mile spur to Falling Waters Trail along the cascading creek.


Mountains-to-Sea Trail:


Part of Segment 8 of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail passes through the preserve.  The trail enters from Goodwill Church Road and follows Falling Waters Trail.  At the split, MST turns right.  After the second intersection with Keyauwee Trail at the rope crossing, MST splits to the right and leads to Haw River Road.

Wildlife:


Some type of phlox, not sure which species this is.
