The Bessemer Ranger District in Ottawa National Forest is located in the northwest of the forest. This district contains hiking trails including the North Country Trail, over 1200 miles of rivers and streams, 30 waterfalls, six campgrounds and the forests's only harbor. Additionally, there are 30 miles of Lake Superior shoreline in the district. Bessemer Ranger District is managed from the Forest Supervisor's Office in Ironwood.

Black River Harbor Recreation Area contains the forest's only harbor on Lake Superior and numerous waterfalls on the Wild and Scenic Black River.
