Upper Falls and Devil's Kettle

Upper Falls and Devil's Kettle Falls are two waterfalls on Brule River in Cook County, Minnesota.  Upper Falls is about 25 feet high and Devil's Kitchen is about 50 feet high.  The waterfalls are located in Judge C. R. Magney State Park.

Directions:


The park is located along the North Shore of Lake Superior.  From Grand Marais, head north on MN-61 for about 13 miles and turn left into the park before the bridge over Brule River.  Go about 0.2 miles to the trailhead parking.

Hike Description:


From the east end of the parking lot, pick up Devil's Kettle Trail that crosses Brule River on a footbridge, then follows the river upstream.  At about 0.8 miles from the trailhead, a staircase to the left descends down to the river at the base of Upper Falls.


Continue on the main trail another 0.2 miles for a view of Devil's Kettle.  The river splits into two streams.  The river right stream falls into a pothole and disappears.


The trail comes out near the top of Devil's Kettle and continues as Superior Hiking Trail.
