Toxaway Game Land is a 5,633-acre protected area of the Jocassee Gorges in Transylvania County. The
Game Land is owned by Duke Energy and the NC Wildlife Resources Commission. The primary activities on the land is hunting and fishing but there are also hiking opportunities, including part of the Foothills Trail. Two major rivers flow through the area to the South Carolina state line -
Thompson River and
Horsepasture River. Numerous waterfalls are found on the rivers and their tributaries. Access to the Game Land is primarily through
Gorges State Park - a high-clearance 4WD vehicle is necessary to drive Chestnut Mountain Road.
