The Tellico Ranger District in Cherokee National Forest covers more than 120,000 acres of forest in Monroe County. The district contains many miles of trails, eight developed campgrounds, numerous waterfalls and the Cherohala Skyway that continues into Nantahala National Forest in North Carolina.

Bald River Gorge Wilderness protects the steep gorge surrounding Bald River upstream of the confluence with Tellico River.
Cherohala Skyway
Cherohala Skyway runs from Tellico Plains into Nantahala National Forest with numerous scenic overlooks and trail access points.
Citico Creek Wilderness
Citico Creek Wilderness protects the headwaters of Citico Creek and is the largest wilderness in Tennessee.
Joyce Kilmer-Slickrock Wilderness:
Joyce Kilmer-Slickrock Wilderness is mostly in Nantahala National Forest in North Carolina.
