NC MST Segment 7

Segment 7 of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail runs for 34.7 miles from Pilot Mountain State Park in Surry County to Hanging Rock State Park in Stokes County.  Also called the Sauratown Mountains, this segment runs through this unusual Piedmont mountain range.  This segment includes about 46.1 miles on trails, 2 miles on gravel roads and 6.6 miles on paved roads.

Route:

The western trailhead is at the Corridor Parking at the River Section of Pilot Mountain State Park and follows the Corridor Trail to the mountain section of the park.  After passing around Pilot Mountain, the trail follows the Sauratown Trail, a private equestrian trail between Pilot Mountain and Hanging Rock State Park.

In Hanging Rock, the trail runs from Tory's Den over Moore's Knob to the Visitor Center and then follows Indian Creek to the park road, the eastern terminus of this section.
