Segment 18 of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail runs for 82.2 miles from Cedar Island Ferry across the Outer Banks and ending at Jockeys Ridge State Park. The majority of the trail is along the beaches of the Outer Banks, but also includes two ferry rides. 67.3 miles is on the beach, 8.8 miles is on trail and 6.1 miles is along roads.
Route:
The western trailhead is at the Cedar Island Ferry. After riding the Ferry to Ocracoke Island, the trail follows the beach to the Hatteras Ferry. On Hatteras Island the trail passes through Buxton Woods to Cape Hatteras Lighthouse.
It then follows the beach north acrosss Hatteras Island and through Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge.
After crossing Mark Basnight Bridge to Bodie Island, the trail follows the beach north into Nags Head and ends at Jockeys Ridge State Park.
