Mayo River State Park

Mayo River State Park is a 2,500-acre North Carolina State Park along the banks of the river in Rockingham County near Mayodan.  The Mayo River rises in southern Virginia and the two forks converge just across the state line.  Mayo River flows south about 15 miles to Madison where it flows into the Dan River.  As one of the newer parks in the system, the park is growing.  First established in 2003, the first public access to Mayo River State Park was opened at the Mayo Mountain Access Area on April 1, 2010.  A visitor center, picnic area, and small network of hiking trails are available here.  In addition, Fall Creek Falls, a waterfall on a tributary of Mayo River is north of the main park area near the Virginia state line.
