Lower Tahquamenon Falls

Lower Tahquamenon Falls is a series of cascades around an island on Tahquamenon River in Chippewa County, Michigan.  The waterfall is located in Tahquamenon Falls State Park.

Directions:


From St. Ignace, head north on I-75 for about 5 miles and take exit 352 for MI-123.  Turn left onto MI-123 north and go 22.5 miles then turn right to stay on MI-123 north.  Drive another 33 miles and turn left onto MI-123 south.  Drive 10.4 miles and turn left into Tahquamenon Falls State Park at the Lower Falls access.  After paying admission, follow the road to the end at the large parking area for Lower Falls.

Hike Description:


From the parking area, follow the trail down to the river.  From here, there is a distant view of the cascades on both sides of the island.


River Trail continues upstream and leads to overlooks for the cascades on the river-left side of the island.


River Trail continues past the Lower Falls and leads to the Upper Falls in about 4 miles.
