Hell Brook Cascades (Smugglers Notch)

Hell Brook Cascades is a tall waterfall on its namesake in Lamoille County, Vermont.  The waterfall is located in Smugglers' Notch State Park.

Directions:

From Stowe, head north on VT-108 for 9 miles and turn right into the Big Spring parking area.

Hike Description:

From the parking area, cross the street and pick up Hell Brook Trail.  After 0.1 miles, an obvious path on the left leads to the base of the waterfall.

The upper section of the falls is not visible from here.  To see it, return to the main trail and continue up to the next switchback, then go left again around a big rock ledge.

Right past this ledge is a view of the upper drop that falls through a narrow gorge.  Use caution up here as the path is very narrow.

The water level was low when we went, but the upper section in particular was very nice.
