El Rito Ranger District (Carson)

The El Rito Ranger District of Carson National Forest comprises land around the town of El Rito in Rio Arriba County.  The district contains two Federal Sustained Yield Units for public harvesting of forest products.  The Jarita Mesa Wild Horse Territory is located on the district that is home to wild horses that trace back to 18th century Spanish conquistadores.  Recreational opportunities on the district include fishing, hiking camping and rock climbing.
