DeSoto National Forest

DeSoto National Forest is a more than 500,000-acre National Forest in southern Mississippi.  Named for Spanish explorer Hernando DeSoto, the forest was established on June 17th, 1936.  In 1936, the National Forests of Mississippi were administratively combined as the National Forests of Mississippi with the Forest Supervisor's office in Jackson.  Today, the forest contains opportunities for hiking, fishing, hunting, camping, ATV riding and has two Wilderness Areas and two National Recreation Trails.

Tuxachanie Trail is a 12-mile National Recreation Trail through the forest.
