Catoctin Mountain Park

Catoctin Mountain Park is a 5,890 National Park Unit in the Catoctin Mountains of western Maryland.  Much of the land that is now the park was severely degraded by timbering and farming.  The federal government purchased the land to rehabilitate as a Recreational Demonstration Area constructed by the Works Progress Administration and Civilian Conservation Corps.  In 1954, the area was divided with the northern half becoming Catoctin Mountain Park under the National Park Service and the southern half becoming Cunningham Falls State Park.  Today, the park has over 25 miles of hiking trails, scenic views and camping.
