Cunningham Falls State Park

Cunningham Falls State Park is a 6,000-acre Maryland State Park in the Catoctin Mountains in Frederick County.  Much of the land that is now the park was severely degraded by timbering and farming.  The federal government purchased the land to rehabilitate as a Recreational Demonstration Area constructed by the Works Progress Administration and Civilian Conservation Corps.  In 1954, the area was divided with the northern half becoming Catoctin Mountain Park under the National Park Service and the southern half becoming the State Park.  Today, the park features hiking trails, picnic areas, a historical iron furnace and its namesake waterfall.
