Brasstown Bald

Brasstown Bald, at 4,784 feet above sea level, is the highest point in Georgia.  The mountain is within Chattahoochee National Forest and accessible by a half-mile paved trail from the parking area.  During season, a shuttle is available to bring visitors to the summit.  On a clear day, four states are visible and even the skyline of Atlanta, but it was cloudy up high when we visited.  There is also a seasonal gift shop and visitor center and several longer trails are available from the area, which is surrounded by Brasstown Wilderness.

Directions:

From Blairsville, head south on US-129/US-19 for about 8 miles and turn left on GA-180.  Go 7.3 miles and turn left on GA-180 spur.  It is 2.5 miles on this steep road to the large parking area near the top.  Private vehicles are not permitted further up the road.  There is a small per person day-use fee to park here.
