Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness

The Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness is a 1.09 million-acre wilderness in Superior National Forest along the Canadian border.  Nearly 20% of the wilderness area is water, made up more than 1000 lakes and hundreds of miles of rivers and streams.  There are many miles of trails in the wilderness but the most popular activity is paddling the waterways.  A wilderness permit is required to enter the wilderness year round both for day and overnight use.
