Sumter National Forest

Sumter National Forest is one of two National Forests in South Carolina, covering more than 370,000 acres of land in the mountains and Piedmont regions.  Sumter National Forest was established in 1936 by President Franklin Roosevelt.  It is named for Thomas Sumter, a revolutionary war hero and native of South Carolina.  The forest has three ranger districts and is managed along with Francis Marion National Forest from headquarters in Columbia.

The Andrew Pickens Ranger District is located in Oconee County in the mountain region of the state.
