Sarah P. Duke Gardens

Sarah P. Duke Gardens is a 55-acre garden on the grounds of Duke University in Durham.  In the 1930s, Dr. Frederic Haynes proposed a public garden near Duke Campus and received funding from Sarah P. Duke, for whom the gardens are named.  The gardens were formally dedicated in 1939 and have since grown to their present size with five miles of walkways throughout.  The gardens are open and free to the public, but a fee is required to park on site or on campus.
