Sandy Pines Preserve (Wake)

Sandy Pines is a 563-acre Wake County preserve in the southeastern portion of the county near Wendell and the largest tract of land owned by Wake County Parks.  The land had been used for farming since at least 1875 when purchased it for a homestead and farm.  Farming and timber harvesting worked the land until the early 2000s.  Wake County purchased the property in 2008 and it opened to the public in 2021 as the third Wake County Nature Preserve.  There are more than six miles of trails for hiking and horseback riding.
