Mitchell Mill State Natural Area

Mitchell Mill State Natural Area is a 93-acre North Carolina State Park along the Little River in eastern Wake County.  It is managed as a satellite of Falls Lake State Recreation Area.  The mill was built in the early 19th century by Andrew Hartsfield.  The mill became the center of the farming community and changed hands.  In 1926, it was sold to Raleigh Granite Company to build a quarry.  Plans were abandoned and the state bought the property in 1976.  Although there are no formal amenities, a social trail follows the river downstream to the remains of the dam.
