House Creek Tributary Waterfall (Raleigh)

There is an ephemeral 20-foot waterfall on a tributary of House Creek, in Wake County, North Carolina.  The waterfall is located in along the Capital Area Greenway near downtown Raleigh, but only exists right after a heavy rain.

Directions:

From Raleigh, go west on I-40 to exit 293 for I-440 E/US-1 N.  Go 5.1 to exit 5 for Lake Boone Trail.  Bear right on Lake Boone Trail and immediately turn left on Horton Street.  Go 0.3 miles and turn right into the greenway parking.

Hike Description:

Pick up House Creek Trail heading north along Horton Street.  In about a quarter-mile, the trail crosses Horton Street at a crosswalk.  In a couple hundred feet, the trail bears left and the waterfall is straight ahead.

It's a very small tributary and the waterfall only exists immediately after a hurricane or other heavy rain event.
