Green Hills County Park

Green Hills County Park, formerly known as North Wake Landfill District Park, is a Wake County park in North Raleigh near US-1.  What is today the park, was formerly a landfill to collect municipal solid waste for Wake County that closed in 2008.  The closed landfill was converted to a park for passive outdoor recreation and opened to the public in 2010.  As the park uses the landfill gas (methane) produced by decomposition to generate energy, no grills, no fires and no smoking are allowed at any time.  The park has paved trails, unpaved hiking and mountain biking trails and a gravel road that leads to the top of the landfill.
