Ferne Clyffe State Park

Ferne Clyffe State Park is a 2,430-acre Illinois State Park in the Shawnee Hills of Johnson County.  Two brothers from Cairo purchased a part of what is today the park in 1899 and named it Ferne Clyffe for the ferns that grow in abundance.  It was later purchased by Emma Rebman, a local school teacher who opened the park as a scenic attraction.  The state purchased Rebman's 140 acres in 1949 and the park has since grown to its present size.  Today, the park features hiking, camping, picnicking, hunting and fishing.
