Cover Falls Preserve is a private nature preserve located in Cherokee County just outside Andrews in the Hiwassee River basin. Public access opened in 2026 thanks to preservation efforts by groups like Mainspring Conservation Trust, turning what was once private land under threat of development into a nice preserve with a short, family-friendly trail. The creek and falls are named for Lillian Brittain Cover, an Andrews native who championed clean water and conservation.
It’s part of the growing network of accessible waterfalls in the Nantahala and nearby areas, offering that classic Western NC charm without the long approach of some others. The preserve helps protect the area while opening it up responsibly. Currently, there is a half-mile trail to the waterfall, but plans to develop more trails.
Directions:
From Andrews, head north on Cover Avenue and go 0.3 miles north of the light on US-19 then turn right on Stewart Road. Drive 0.5 miles and turn left on Cover Falls Road. Go 0.2 miles to a small parking on the right.
