Charles Towne Landing Animal Forest

The Animal Forest at Charles Towne Landing State Historic Site is a small zoo that is home to a number of animals that lived in the Charleston area at the time of first English settlement in the late 17th century.  The Animal Forest Trail splits off from the History Trail near the visitor center and leads about three quarters of a mile through the forest.  Dogs and bicycles are not permitted in the forest.  The forest makes a great addition to the site and complements the historical points of interest.

Animals:

The aviary is home to several shore birds common to the area, such as herons and pelicans.
